Comparison of MAP and Streptococcus Mutans for Similar Virulence Genes

The genomes of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) and Streptococcus mutans have been sequenced. MAP is the causative agent of Johne’s disease, and Streptococcus mutans is the major cause of dental disease.

I’m proposing that both MAP and Streptococcus mutans have similar disease-causing mechanisms: adhesion and significant acid-production.

A comparison of their genome sequences may reveal similar virulence genes.
